The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has appointed Tom Maguire interim director of transportation, effective August 15, 2019. Macguire succeeds Ed Reiskin and will serve as interim director of transportation until a new director of transportation is appointed.
Macguire joined SFMTA in 2014 and currently serves as director of the SFMTA sustainable streets division, overseeing SFMTA staff who operate, engineer, design and plan the city’s traffic, parking, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and provide transit security and parking enforcement.
Prior to joining the SFMTA, he served as assistant commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, where he managed Bus Rapid Transit, sustainability and resiliency programs among other duties.
Macguire earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from UC Berkeley.
